DR. LYNDSAY RHODES

FACULTY FOUNDER

lrhodes@fgcu.edu | Phone: 239.590.7244

Originally from Faith, NC, Dr. Lyndsay Rhodes attained her bachelor degrees in Biology (BA) and Psychology (BA) from Pfeiffer University in Misenheimer, NC in 2004. She completed her graduate (2004-2009) and postdoctoral (2010-2014) work at Tulane University School of Medicine in New Orleans, LA. As an Associate Professor in the Department of Biological Sciences at Florida Gulf Coast University, Dr. Rhodes splits her time between her two career passions, teaching and research. For more than a decade Dr. Rhodes has been dedicated to cancer research and uncovering the underlying molecular mechanisms driving these insidious diseases. Her research in breast cancer specifically has spanned molecular and cellular techniques from in vitro cell culture, to animal models, to big data bioinformatics analysis. However, the central theme to her research has remained the same; to understand the interactions driving breast cancer to develop better therapeutics for patient care. Current research interests included development of natural compounds for therapy, understanding the role of non-coding RNA in cancer regulation, and exploring nanoparticle technology for the potential treatment of breast cancers. Dr. Rhodes has authored more than 40 peer-reviewed manuscripts and mentored over 40 undergraduate research students. Engaging students in authentic research experiences, involving them in all areas of the scientific process, is key to training the next generation of cancer researchers and paramount to furthering our understanding of cancer.

VICE PRESIDENT, TREASURER

PRESIDENT

Christy Doan

Taylor McCabe

HISTORIAN

Christy is a sophomore at FGCU majoring in Biology with a Pre-Professional concentration. On campus, she also serves as Vice-President of the Asian American Student Union, which she co-founded last year. She ultimately plans to pursue dental school upon graduating with her B.S. in Biology . She is so excited for a great year with CRP to educate our community and all of our new members.

Grant Cardinel

Grant will be serving as the Treasurer for the FGCU Cancer Research Program. He is a senior majoring in biology and minoring in chemistry. He works part-time as a CNA at HealthPark hospital, and on-campus through the Department of Chemistry and Physics as a Lab Assistant. Grant is also the President of the FGCU Pre-Physician Assistant Association. His future career goal is to obtain his master's degree in physician assistant studies. He is really excited to team up with the cancer research program this year and to see what we can all accomplish.

Taylor is a senior in bioengineering with a minor in medical humanities and on the pre-med track. She currently serves as the President of FGCU STEMinist RSO which she co-founded last year. She is a member of the Biomedical Engineering Society and the Honors College. Taylor also interns at Arthrex and enjoys it so much that she is considering sticking with bioengineering upon graduation. She is excited to help develop this FGCU CRP to be even more successful than it has already been and document it every step of the way.
